Hydraulic Design Engineer
We are only able to consider applications from individuals who are already eligible to legally work in the UK from the start of employment (no visa sponsorship is available).
Most hydraulic engineers design a power unit, hand it over and never see it work. This role lets you own the hydraulic solution on major projects, from first concept to a system working on site.
Our client is a specialist engineering contractor delivering complex projects across infrastructure and heavy industrial sectors. They have a strong pipeline of large projects ahead and want a Hydraulic Design Engineer to lead the hydraulic side of that work.
What you’ll do
Develop outline hydraulic design solutions, including schematics, system sizing, component selection and specifications, for subcontractors to detail and build.
Act as the hydraulic technical authority on projects, reviewing subcontractor designs and making sure what’s delivered matches what was specified.
Manage subcontractor relationships commercially, holding them to scope, cost and programme.
Work with project managers and the operational hydraulics team to take systems through installation and commissioning.
Support bids with hydraulic scope, budgets and technical input.
What you’ll bring
A mechanical engineering degree or HNC/HND, with solid hydraulic design experience. You might be at a hydraulic OEM, a power unit builder or a heavy industry integrator.
Experience with HPUs, valve stands, cylinders and pipework on large-scale equipment.
Confidence dealing with subcontractors and suppliers, with an eye for cost as well as engineering.
Ownership: you deal with problems early, keep people informed and see projects through to close-out.
A full UK driving licence and willingness to visit sites.
Why this role
Real ownership: you’ll be the hydraulic lead, not one engineer among many.
Variety: large, unusual, heavy-duty systems that most hydraulic engineers never work on.
A business that values external experience and fresh ideas, with room to shape how hydraulics is done.
Long-term stability, backed by a full project pipeline.
