ICT Support Technician – Engineering & Industrial Systems
£25,000–£30,000 DOE + benefits | Permanent, full-time
Bored of resetting passwords in a ticket queue? This role mixes in-house IT with real infrastructure, cyber security and customer project work, including securing industrial control systems, which most support roles never touch.
Our client is a growing specialist engineering business delivering control and automation systems on major infrastructure. They’re expanding their in-house ICT team and want an experienced technician who can hit the ground running.
The role
About 70% of your time goes on supporting and improving the internal IT estate. The other 30% is on IT projects and customer support, designing, installing and commissioning ICT solutions for clients.
What you’ll do
Provide hands-on first- and second-line support to staff across two sites.
Install, configure and maintain hardware, software, servers and virtualised environments, both Windows and Linux.
Manage endpoint protection, access permissions, backups and disaster recovery.
Run system updates and maintenance, sometimes out of hours.
Design, install and commission ICT solutions for customer projects, working with clients and suppliers.
Help maintain ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus, and reduce cyber risk across business and industrial control environments.
Produce clear technical documentation, procedures and reports.
Mentor apprentices and junior technicians.
Join a 24/7 remote call-out rota.
What you’ll bring
At least 3 years of practical experience in an ICT support role.
Solid knowledge of Windows and Linux, server and virtualisation environments, and networking (routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs).
Strong troubleshooting skills and clear documentation.
A proactive, customer-focused approach.
A relevant degree, or equivalent qualifications and experience.
A full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel to customer sites.
Eligibility to work in the UK, and the ability to obtain an Enhanced DBS check.
Desirable: a cyber security qualification, experience with compliance frameworks, or a background in engineering.
Why apply
Varied work across internal IT, customer projects and OT/industrial cyber security.
Funded training and professional memberships.
Real progression: the team’s last two roles were filled by internal promotions.
Benefits: pension, private medical, life insurance, EV lease scheme with on-site chargers, and cycle to work.
