Searching for a new role is hard in so many ways but it can also take its toll mentally.
Rejections, uncertainty, and comparison can chip away at confidence over time. On World Mental Health Day, it’s worth remembering to look after yourself through the process.
Here are a few small things that can make a big difference:
- Keep structure in your day. Treat the job search like a job so set hours for applications, and stop when the day’s done. Boundaries help prevent burnout.
- Celebrate small wins. Updating your CV, landing an interview, or even sending off a tricky application are all steps forward. They deserve recognition.
- Stay connected. Job hunting can feel isolating so make time to talk to friends, mentors, or former colleagues (you never know who can refer you to someone looking!). Also a single convo can shift perspective and lift your energy.
- Limit comparison. Everyone’s career journey moves at a different pace. Focus on your own next step, not someone else’s linkedin highlight reel.
- Be kind to yourself. Rejections happen to everyone. Take breaks when you need to. Your value isn’t defined by a job.
Your mental wellbeing matters just as much as finding the right role…perhaps even more so. 🌿
