I don’t know about you, but the new year new me stuff never used to work for me 🤷
You know the drill…you think of some big goals…even write them down only to forget about it all by Feb.
One thing that I have stuck to is getting out there and being more active (even on xmas day as you can see in this v unflattering pic – ho ho ho)
I followed something I learnt from working in sales – working backwards.
Often, the key to hitting your goals isn’t just setting them—it’s breaking them down bit by bit.
By working backwards from your end goal, you create a clear roadmap of actionable steps, milestones, and even deadlines.
You can go all the way back to day to day activities to really hold yourself to account.
For example, in sales you might look at your target and work back to how many times you need to dial / email / send a carrier pigeon etc in order for you to get the outcome you want that will lead to your monthly GBP target.
You might then look at habits that help / hinder this.
Added to that, you might look at things that make doing these activities easier / harder…
You can do the same thing with anything else – even moving more.
Start with your desired outcome, then ask yourself: “What needs to happen just before that?” Keep peeling back the layers until you identify your starting point.
This approach ensures you’re focused on what truly matters, minimizes distractions, and makes your goals feel more achievable 🚀
